Alan Leslie joined the Maryland Agriculture Experiment Station in 2023 as the Center Director of the Western Maryland, Central Maryland, and Lower Eastern Shore Research and Extension Centers. His extension programming focuses on promoting adoption of integrated pest management (IPM) strategies for managing insect, weed, and disease pests in vegetable and agronomic cropping systems. Alan's previous research experience includes nutrient transport and fate in agricultural drainage ditches, the biology and ecology of invasive insect pests, enhancing biological control by providing floral resources, and the impact of cover crops on soil food webs. Current research projects include using cover crops to suppress weeds in reduced tillage vegetable production and developing IPM strategies for stem-boring insect pests. Alan received his B.S. in Marine Biology and his Ph.D. in Entomology from the University of Maryland.
