Internship Opportunities Available
Each term (Spring, Summer and Fall), two internship opportunities are available to undergraduate students as a means to provide hands-on learning related to beef cattle management. Students from Maryland and across the United States apply and are selected to participate in the unique program. Of the two available spots each term, one is reserved for a University of Maryland student with the other being open to any interested undergraduate. To date more than 50 students from 7 states have participated in the internship program.
This is one-internship you do not want to miss applying for, especially if you have any interest in beef cattle. Depending on the internship you apply for, the job description will vary. Below are a few of the highlights:
- Assist in daily operation of the herd
- Breeding: AI, heat checking, semen collection
- Data Collection: Animal measurements, feed data, routine observations
- Herd health practices: Calving, vaccinations, parasite control
- Sales: Annual Spring production sale
- Pasture Management
- Hay and Silage Management
- On farm housing
- Beautiful location, just 90 minutes from the seashores
