Our Mission:
The ENSP Student Advisory Board (ENSPire) exists to bring together ENSP majors and to voice ENSP students’ concerns and suggestions about the ENSP program to staff, faculty, and administrators. With twelve different concentrations spanning 3 advising colleges, ENSPire works hard to create a sense of community within the major across our diverse interests.

Our Role:
The Board is made up of two or three representatives from each class, members are selected in the spring of their freshman year and generally serve until they graduate. ENSPire plans various events which center around environmental education, professional development, academic support, and making new friends in the major. Events are open to current and prospective ENSP students.
- Academic Peer Advising: Advisory Board members will meet with students one-on-one to discuss career plans, internship advice, academic schedules, four-year plans, using Testudo, joining student clubs and organizations, or to answer any other academic or social questions students might have. - Feedback Form: Find a google form here where you can leave suggestions about future events and give us general feedback.
- Open Bi-weekly Meetings: Our Board meetings are bi-weekly and open to students, student groups, and other organizations who would like to give us feedback or partner with us for events or initiatives. Please contact us at enspireatumd@gmail.com to find a time to attend an ENSPire meeting.

Meet Our Students
Anna Saderholm is a graduating senior at the University of Maryland majoring in Environmental Science and Policy. Anna has a concentration in Environmental Politics and Policy in addition to a minor in Nonprofit Leadership and a second minor in Spanish. Anna is currently working at the Maryland General Assembly in a Delegate’s Office for the 2023 Legislative Session and absolutely loving it! Anna is President of ENSPire and enjoys being able to plan events and advise students. After graduation, Anna is hoping to work in local or state government on environmental policy and eventually pursue a higher education degree. Email: asader@umd.edu
Michael Howerton is a senior Environmental Science and Policy student with a concentration in Land Use from Odenton, Maryland. In addition to a minor in Spanish, he’s begun his graduate studies in pursuit of an MS in Geographical Sciences through GEOG’s Combined Bachelor’s/Master’s Program. Michael’s completed research on dietary diversity in underserved areas of DC under Dr. Caroline Boules and Dr. Kate Tully; currently, he works on the Campus Forest Carbon Project, using LiDAR data to estimate forest stocks at the university, state, and regional levels. At UMD, he is active in the Shakespeare Players and the ENSPire student advisory board, as well as serves as a graduate teaching assistant for two intro courses within the ENSP Department. He enjoys theatre, the outdoors, and B horror movies. After completing his Master’s, Michael hopes to work with GIS and/or Remote Sensing at the intersection of applied science and policy.

Courtney D. DeLoatch-Hill is a junior Environmental Science and Policy (ENSP) major with a concentration in Policy and Politics at the University of Maryland, College Park. Courtney is pursuing a minor in sustainability, which, along with her major, is spearheading her passion for environmental justice. During her time on Maryland's campus, she has devoted time to the FIRE (First-Year Innovation & Research Experience) Student Leadership Council, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, UMD Federal Fellows Program, as well as the Sustainability Analytics Research Lab, where she has participated in multiple research initiatives partnering with the USDA-APHIS and EPA.
Courtney has recently been named a Class of 2022 Ernest F. Hollings National Undergraduate Scholar. This recognition is competitive (127 students nationally) and is awarded by The NOAA Office of Education under the United States Department of Commerce.
In addition, Courtney is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, a Southern Maryland native, an avid animal lover, and a 2022 Friends of Blackwater Scholarship Recipient. Email: cdeloatc@terpmail.umd.edu
Olivia Rutigliano (she/her) is a junior Environmental Science and Policy (ENSP) major with a concentration in Culture and the Environment, and a prospective minor in general business. Besides serving on the ENSPire board as a general member and social media chair, she is VP of HR for the professional business fraternity Phi Chi Theta. She is also on the club soccer team, multiple intramural sports teams, and works for the residential department on campus. Olivia hopes to pursue environmental anthropology, specifically focusing on the intersection between environmental and human health! If anyone in this field wants to hire her, she is all ears.

Ryan Kim is a junior Environmental Science and Policy (ENSP) major with a concentration in Marine and Coastal Management at the University of Maryland, College Park. Ryan transferred to UMD in 2021 after graduating from Anne Arundel Community College. During his time at UMD, he has been involved with the ENSPire Student Advisory Board, Office of Sustainability Intern, Green Terps Ambassadors, SGA Sustainability Committee, and more! He has also had outside internships with the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, Global Co-Lab, and Anne Arundel Community College’s Environmental Center. Currently, Ryan is working on a virtual and in-person Sustainability Conference that will bring together researchers, undergrad, grad, and Ph.D. students to talk about a vast amount of topics within the field of sustainability while also showing off all the research being done at UMD. This event will take place in April of 2023 and will be open to anyone interested at any knowledge level nationwide from Highschool to Community College to University students for free! Troy Wynne is a senior environmental science and policy (ENSP) major with a concentration in wildlife ecology and management from Washington, DC. Troy transferred to UMD in 2021, after completing her sophomore year at Scripps College in Los Angeles, California. During her time at UMD, she has been involved with MANNRS, ENSPire Student Advisory Board, and RESTORE. She has also had internships with USDA-APHIS, an REU at UCLA, and OceanX, OceanXplorer research vessel. Shayna Silverman (she/her) is a sophomore Environmental Science and Policy student with a concentration in Wildlife Ecology and Management. She hopes to declare Disability Studies as a minor before tentative graduation in May of 2025. Some of her career interests include: environmental education, watershed restoration, and wildlife management. Shayna currently serves as Delta Gamma’s Director of Sisterhood. Her responsibilities include event planning and execution, budget managing, frequent chapter-wide communication, and close work with her programming supervisor. She also serves on her chapter’s Junior Chapter Management Team. In addition, Shayna is a religious school teacher in Bowie MD, and a long-term volunteer at The Friendship Circle of Pittsburgh. Ava Piatt is a freshman in Environmental Science and Policy and is from Bel Air, Maryland. She is on track for the policy and politics track with hopes of eventually attending law school.
