Dr. Andy Clark has coordinated the outreach activities of the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program (SARE) since 1995. SARE publishes information about sustainable agriculture using various media including the web at http://www.sare.org. Dr. Clark worked as a technician in the Department of Agronomy while completing a Masters Degree (1988) in Plant Breeding and a Ph.D (1993) in Cropping Systems.
Andy oversees a complex communications and outreach program – called SARE Outreach -- with a staff of five communications professionals. The program has been recognized by the Association for Communications Excellence (ACE) in 2012 and in 2013, for our website and our annual report, respectively. In both years, we won not only an award within our subcategory, but also the gold award: “Outstanding Professional Skill Award,” for Information Technology in 2012 and for Writing in 2013. See https://www.aceweb.org/awards/240-2013-caa-winners.html and https://www.aceweb.org/awards/146-2012-caa-winners.html. We have also won three awards from the American Society of Agronomy: for our (first) website, for a book, and for a topical bulletin.
Andy has personally edited 3 books, including Managing Cover Crops Profitably, “the Bible of Cover Crops” as it is regularly called, but in addition, he is responsible for every aspect of SARE Outreach and has played a major role in what has become a formidable communications program. See www.sare.org, which conveys some idea of the complexity of the work that Andy is now doing, including:
