Beverly Jackey is a Family and Consumer Science Educator at the University of Maryland Extension (UME). As a member of UME’s Healthy Living Action Teams, she develops and provides community programming and outreach in the areas of nutrition and chronic disease prevention and management, food safety and healthy home environments in Maryland’s Upper Shore Cluster that includes Cecil, Kent, and Queen Anne's Counties. Ms. Jackey has a BS in Nutrition from Montclair State University, completed a Dietetic Internship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and a MS in Health Promotion from the University of Delaware. She is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She served the community in Delaware for many years, most recently as the Education Programs Director at the Food Bank of Delaware. Her research focuses on assessing the health programmatic needs of communities within her cluster and nutrition and health literacy of adults. Her work entitled, Food Label Knowledge, Usage and Attitudes of Older Adults has been published in the Journal of Nutrition in Gerontology and Geriatrics.
Extension Goal: As an educator, my goal is to deliver programs that engage, motivate and empower individuals to take control and change their health behaviors to adopt a healthy, active lifestyle. Professional Development & Experience:
