Emily Porter is a horticulture consultant at HGIC. She graduated from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry College with a degree in Landscape Architecture in 2008. During her time at school, she focused her studies in historical landscape preservation, contributing to the treatment report for the Eleanor Roosevelt Historic Site in Hyde Park, NY and on design details of Japanese Tea Gardens, with a study abroad in Kyoto, Japan. Her landscape design experience in Maryland focuses on home gardens, and she has a background in retail garden center sales. She has a passion for native plants, their ornamental uses and environmentally friendly gardening techniques. Emily’s personal interests include all aspects of gardening as well as growing her own small fruits, vegetables, and herbs, gardening and teaching children about nature, volunteering at her children’s school, hiking, canoeing, and camping, and continuing to explore new environments!
