Hi there! I'm Crystal Terhune-- Your Family and Consumer Sciences Educator for Maryland's Mid-Shore Region (Caroline, Talbot, and Dorchester Counties).
As an Extension Educator, I teach non-formal classes throughout the community-- providing non-biased information informed by research and data-- presented in an understandable and relatable way! Classes and events are offered throughout the Mid-Shore region at various locations (or online), and I respond to requests from residents, groups, organizations, and agencies in order to meet local needs.
The topics covered by my regular teaching and outreach range across many dimensions of wellness, with an emphasis on financial wellness and related matters. As examples, some of my work involves:

helping people to "shop smart" (stretching their food dollars, shopping by unit price, learning strategies for money management, etc.);

empowering them to protect their identities and personal information;

encouraging people to become aware of various scams;

helping them to prepare financially for emergencies; and
-
working with a wide variety of vulnerable populations to help them to understand and have access to the needs-based benefits, programs, and services that are available to them.
While the majority of my current programming focuses on finance-related themes, I also have experience in teaching and outreach across a broad spectrum of topics including "Healthy Homes", food safety, nutrition, end-of-life decision-making, and more.
As a licensed Social Worker (LMSW), and with 23+ years of experience working with diverse, differently-abled, and vulnerable populations, I've had many personal and professional experiences that have provided me with a perspective that helps me to understand the complexity of needs held by people in our communities.
